Chapter 91: Desertion
Chapter 91: Desertion
This was bad. Amanda wasn’t sure if someone powerful was nearby, so she needed to take the elf and retreat.
Amanda held her hands up. "I know I look scary, but I only want to help you. Is there anything I could do that would make you believe me?"
The young elf had eyes full of tears, new ones forming. "Can you...bring my family back?"
She didn’t dare turn to her parents in this moment. She had mental images of them already.
Seeing her heroes meet this kind of fate was a pill that was genuinely impossible to swallow, yet she was forced to. She crumpled to her knees trembling with sadness and fury she didn’t know what to do with.
Amanda wasn’t sure how to answer that. She had no right to dictate her choices either. Someone who she thought was family had turned out to be a snake, but what about having a family that loves you, only to have it snatched away by the most lowlife creatures on the planet?
She didn’t know what that was like and she’d rather not make a mental image.
"I can’t do that. But I know life wasn’t fair to you. I know that you’re not going to get anywhere if I leave you. I know that I feel the need to help you."
The young elf sniffed as Amanda got closer. Slowly putting one foot in front of another.
"I feel alone too. I don’t know what’s ahead of me. The one person I thought I had is gone and right now, I want to be in your presence.
Is that alright?"
The young elf looked up only to see Amanda had gotten much closer. Her expression was blank, yet her lips were quivering and tears trailed down her eyes.
Amanda knelt down and gave the young elf a hug. It was quickly reciprocated, the elf did the same to her. Everyone needed someone in a time like this. but Amanda pulled away quicker than she wanted, as she needed to get her out of here.
"I’m Amanda. While I can’t bring your parents back, I hope to be some other form of family."
Amanda pulled Vexa up, wrapping her arm around her, before walking out of the wreck.
All the while Amanda was looking around, making sure nobody could surprise them.
The young elf relented and nodded her head, feeling a bit powerless about it. What choice did she have?
"Vexa."
"What’s that?" Amanda turned to her, raising an eyebrow.
"My name, it’s Vexa."
"Well Vexa, I have a decent amount of money, and I know how to spend it. I’ll make sure we have enough to survive and get stronger.
The only way we can prevent things like these is by becoming so threatening that nobody would dare mess with us again."
Vexa was disillusioned by the whole thing.
"But what about you? What do you want to do once you’re strong enough to have all that freedom?"
Vexa was once again stumped, but she had an idea. "I want to become wealthy. I want a lavish grand home, every step I take inside should remind me of my status."
She wanted to be so rich that even her butlers had butlers.
"Perhaps you could do all the work and I could count the money." A small chuckle left Veda’s lips and for a moment, she smiled.
It knocked the wind out of Amanda. And in the moment nothing about the future mattered. Right now, her goal was to make her smile once more.
Waking up from her slumber, Amanda yawns, stretching her arms and legs, hoping to brush against a certain someone, only to not feel her presence.
"Great, now I gotta go get her." Amanda lazily got up, going towards her dresser. In the room, she was in seemed like it hadn’t been lived in in years, just cleaned.
As she went and used the mirror she got a look at her appearance, a small scar appeared on her face and trailed down to her neck and her chest. She still looked damn attractive, the scars just added character.
Yet in the bottom next to the mirror, she could see a beautiful woman next to Theodore, holding in her arms what could only have been Briana, his daughter.
Seeing as she didn’t come across a mother meant she died long before Amanda got there. That knowledge soothed her in some way.
moving out of the room, she saw servants roaming the halls, cleaning whatever they could with haste, one could imagine why.
The guards had all been replaced by her own men. Some were currently being indoctrinated, while the ones who refused were killed.
Though her guards were a bit out of it at the moment. A few were lazily leaning on doors they were supposed to be protecting. Amanda had taken quite a bit of time to rest, a few days to be exact.
yet her presence was still quite alarming.
A guard who had noticed her walking by, her presence gave off a sense of regality and lethality.
The moment he saw her, not a word was said, his back straightened. Amanda ignored him, as well as the many guards who did the same as she walked past.
The servants were too scared to even look in her direction, most of them being downstairs.
Amanda was usually a lot more strict and ruthless, but today she had tied up a loose end, and scored a victory in her heart.
Yet she knew she couldn’t let up, even for a moment. One slip up and it was over.
She was walking around, looking for her right hand woman. Looking for vexa.
Amanda goes to a room in the main hall when she finds Vexa walking to the lower levels. She is holding a prisoner.
Intrigued, She follows with out making a sound, following closely behind.
Getting downstairs, She walks towards the doors to the lower dungeon. Two intimidating looking men were guarding it.
The moment they turned to looks at her, They turned it off. Their threatening demeanor seemed to vanish.
"Hello miss Amanda. Would you like to pass?" she simply nodded and they let her through. Being in a night gown would usually make you a tad less scary, not in this case.
as walked in, She took a look at the cells. A few prisoners she was curious about, but decided against that for now.
Walked further, she into a room filled with torture devices, saws, branding irons, and loads more.
Looking past that, she saw Vexa interrogating Logan. The mauler.
Vexa sighed, turning to her. "A few of our other captains caught him on the edge of deserting. The only reason he failed was because he was too tired to go all the way."
Amanda looked Vexa dead in the eyes and give a response straight from the soul.
"You should stay in bed longer."
"Please focus!"
Being forced back to this, Amanda kneels, looking at Logan. He was supposed to be a battle junky. What happened to him?
Logan was in mana restricting cuffs, looking down. "Damn. Perhaps i should’ve ran a bit further back then."
"Why did you just up and leave? We could’ve made an acception for you."
Logan laughed. "Ahhh...truth be told I was just done with it. All of it. It hit me like an anvil and it sent me on my way. Seems I just wasn’t fast enough."
"The worst part about having to go through with this, is that I understand you completely. Vexa?"
As Amanda turned to her, Vexa took one of her knives and pressed it to his neck.
Then came one final slash.
Amanda walked out of the dungeon, As did Vexa. Yet eyes stuck to her no matter where she moved. In a mix of servants and confused guards, she threw Logan’s head across the floor.
"Let it be known now. This is what the response is to cowardice."
