Chapter 696: Secrets in the Diary
Chapter 696: Secrets in the Diary
Nancy Kensington looked at Selena Kensington’s belly, sighing with emotion.
Previously, Selena had also shared the news of her pregnancy with Nancy.
Nancy immediately expressed her excitement, saying she wanted to visit Selena again.
But at that time, Nancy had too many things to handle, so Selena told her to focus on her work first.
Visiting her wasn’t urgent.
And so, this delay brought them to the present.
Selena chuckled lightly, "It’s nothing, I feel great now."
After saying this, Selena blinked, "Is there... no one around you?"
Nancy, observing Selena’s expression, immediately understood.
She glanced around and shook her head slightly.
"Don’t worry, this is Fred’s study, no one dares to come in."
"That’s good."
Selena breathed a slight sigh of relief.
She then picked up the diary placed on the table.
"Aunt, this is a diary that my friend found based on clues from that map."
"It contains records by my grandparents about their journey from leaving The Empire to The D-Nation, and eventually moving their lab location..."
Before Selena could finish, Nancy interrupted her with a frown.
"Wait, what did you say? What did you find?"
Selena exchanged a glance with Sterling Norwood, and then spoke curiously, "A diary."
After speaking, she waved the leather-bound diary in front of Nancy.
But Nancy’s frown deepened.
"That’s impossible!"
She declared firmly.
Nancy’s words were so certain that Selena’s curiosity deepened.
"Aunt, what do you mean by that?"
Nancy sighed gently before looking up to ask again.
"Are you sure the only thing you found following the map is this diary?"
Selena frowned briefly before nodding solemnly.
"Yes!"
"And the contents of this diary started being recorded after my parents left The Empire?"
"Yes."
Nancy asked two consecutive questions, both of which Selena answered with a nod.
Nancy shook her head slightly, her expression clouded with worry.
"That makes it even more impossible."
"My parents never had the habit of writing a diary, and even if they started recording after leaving The Empire, I was with them for over half a year before they were taken by The Godsbane Organization."
"Aside from the time they spent conducting experiments in the lab, I was always with them. There’s no way I wouldn’t remember if they were keeping a diary."
Nancy stated one by one.
After Nancy finished speaking, a hint of shock flashed in Selena’s eyes.
"Then this diary..."
She spoke with some uncertainty.
"Let me see the handwriting inside."
Selena immediately opened the diary to a page and held its contents up to the screen for Nancy to see.
"..."
Nancy skimmed through the contents inside, then examined the appearance of the diary.
"It is indeed my parents’ handwriting..."
"Wait... the page numbers?!"
Nancy exclaimed as if she had discovered something.
"These page numbers aren’t part of the original diary, they were written in, weren’t they?!"
Listening to Nancy, Selena immediately turned the diary over to carefully examine the page numbers.
Though neatly labeled, they were indeed manually added...
"...Did Winston Kensington and Rachel Shaw add these themselves?"
Sterling murmured.
But why did they add page numbers to the diary?
Selena shook her head in confusion.
When she looked up again, she saw Nancy sitting stunned on the sofa behind her.
Her face wore an expression of wistful daze.
It seemed she was reminiscing about the past.
Seeing Nancy in this state, Selena seemed to understand something.
Nancy probably already knew the purpose of this diary.
Selena didn’t disturb Nancy’s reminiscence, instead waiting for her to return from her stupor.
After two or three minutes of silence, Nancy came back to her senses.
"...You just said that the diary ends after they prepared to move the lab?"
Selena nodded, "Yes."
"Then my parents indeed hid clues about the new lab’s location inside."
Nancy sighed.
Then she straightened up, "Get a piece of paper and a pen; I’ll have you note the page numbers and letters as I guide you."
"Alright."
Selena quickly pulled a sheet of A4 paper from the desk.
Once Selena was ready, Nancy began speaking slowly, "When I was young, I often forgot important dates, so my parents frequently played puzzle games with me to help me remember those dates..."
Nancy recalled briefly, then paused.
Her voice turned serious, and her expression grew somber.
"Page six, second and first letters."
Listening to Nancy, Selena quickly turned to page six and recorded the letters.
R, O.
"Page two, first and sixth letters."
Nancy continued.
Selena continued to jot down the letters Nancy indicated.
S, E.
"Page ten, first and ninth letters."
M, A.
"Page three, second and third letters."
R, Y.
Nancy gave four consecutive instructions.
"Alright. Let’s see what word it forms."
Selena silently looked at the word presented on the A4 paper.
"Rosemary."
"Isn’t that a flower’s name?"
"Rosemary..."
As Selena asked the question, Sterling’s voice suddenly rang out.
Rosemary.
In English, it means rosemary.
Is this the clue to The Godsbane Organization’s new lab?
Why leave a word related to a flower?
"Aunt, the numbers you mentioned... what are they?"
Selena asked curiously.
"The first one is my birthday. The second is the day we left The Empire. The third is the day my parents were taken, and the fourth... the day my brother was born."
Nancy sighed slightly, speaking slowly.
"But it finally formed ’Rosemary.’
"There are so many things related to rosemary; our search range becomes too broad."
As Nancy spoke, her expression was full of worry.
Clearly, she also had difficulty understanding her parents’ intentions.
"It’s okay, as long as the diary is decoded, we have a clue and can continue investigating."
Nancy thought the same, so she smiled and nodded.
"I’ll secretly search for things and places related to rosemary."
"This diary was probably only started by my parents just before moving the lab, leaving clues about the lab’s location."
"Later, for some reason, The Godsbane Organization found out, and in order to prevent the new lab location from being exposed, they kept hunting us down..."
