Chapter 258: I Quit
Chapter 258: I Quit
Walking through the building, eyes followed Damian everywhere he went but more importantly, their eyes followed the stunning woman carrying his cigar box as though she belonged beside him naturally.
Conversations quietly died wherever he passed. Employees stopped typing. Assistants stopped walking. People subtly adjusted their posture without understanding why.
Questions spread silently.
Wasn’t this man married?
Did his wife know he moved around with women this beautiful?
Wasn’t that his driver?
Then why did she look more expensive than half the people in this building?
No one dared ask and Damian himself did not care.
He walked calmly through the marble halls with smoke lazily escaping his lips and headed toward the partner elevator.
Truthfully, he could have gone directly to Victor Hale’s office.
But he wanted to walk.
He wanted to see this place one last time.
Ding.
The elevator doors slid open only to reveal several staff standing and waiting to go higher. Amongst them was Candice.
The moment she looked up, she froze like everyone else. Standing face to face with Damian felt strange.
He looked different, much taller and sharper. His presence alone felt overwhelming. It made the elevator seem full, despite only him standing there.
To make this worse, his black attire combined with the purple undercut and those strangely bright eyes created an oppressive feeling none of them could explain.
Even the way he held his cigar looked expensive.
Nobody spoke as they instinctively stepped aside and Damian walked straight through them.
He didn’t glance at Candice, not even once.
Candice stared as her breathing became uneven. She had imagined this moment several times.
She imagined Damian glaring at her, mocking her or showing off. But he has never done that.
She was the one who betrayed him but he has never shown her pain. Pretending she never existed somehow was worse.
He genuinely looked like he didn’t notice she existed. That indifferent expressionless face made her feel small. Like she wasn’t even worth his reaction.
The brilliance Damian was displaying now was the same brilliance she saw when he first joined the firm. Because it flickered a bit, she had lost faith in him and abandoned him.
Now that same nobody was the talk of the country. His name was everywhere while she is single and an ex to a jobless man who had gone missing a month ago.
Watching Damian walk away, someone finally gathered courage.
"Con... Congratulations on your victory." One of the girls smiled nervously.
Immediately every eye turned at Damian. Several rose to their feet and some even waving at him but Damian only continued walking.
Despite giving them no reaction, people unconsciously began trailing behind him. Not because anyone told them to, but because everyone felt something a difference in the new Damian.
They were certain he wasn’t here to work.Something was happening and they were eager to find out.
People quietly followed and slowly the numbers grew into a small crowd of staff m, abandoning their work just to make sure they don’t miss
Eventually, they reached the partner floor and stopped there because it was restricted to only partners. However, Damian entered there with Loth, clearly this man due not come for peace
At that moment, Martin stepped out of Victor Hale’s office. The older man immediately brightened upon seeing their young genius.
"Mr. Hill, amazin work!" He smiled with his arms spread wide.
The Delaney case had nearly destroyed everyone’s sleep. That was why they pushed for Damian after the Twenty Shot trial.
Nobody, not even Martin expected Damian to dismantle federal prosecutors and win in a single hearing.
Now Damian was no longer simply their attorney. He was becoming a public figure everywhere people talked about qnd through Damian the Blacksheep firm was also getting some recognition
But as Martin approached, his excitement slowly faded. Damian barely looked at him. He only gave a vague nod, then continued walking.
Martin froze. Only now did he notice the cigar and the woman in staff restricted floor.
At this point, even he could tell something is wrong. He quickly hurried after him.
"Mr. Hill... is there something you wish to speak to me about first?"
Damian ignored him and Loth didn’t even bother looking at him.
Bam.
The office doors burst open and Victor Hale looked up from his computer but there was no one at the door.
He froze as a thick shadow loomed over him from the side. Damian had already walked around the desk, towering over him.
His purple eyes quietly burned and Victor felt cold instantly. His body remained seated but every instinct screamed at him to stand and run
"D... Damian?" Victor stuttered.
Damian looked at him long enough for him to remembered every unpleasant encounter he had with Damian.
Damian on the other hand did not like this man one bit. After losing Candice while he was at his lowest, this man tried to snatch his wife in front of everyone.
The disrespect may not enough for death, but enough to give this man a small beating in his free time.
Damian reached into his coat, pulled out a folded envelope and dropped it onto Victor’s lap.
Slowly he removed the cigar and exhaled smoke on Victor’s face causing him to cough violently.
Damian turned and walked away without saying a word while Victor remained frozen.
Martin quickly blocked the doorway with a face dark.
"You’re making a terrible mistake." His voice lowered. "This firm has big plans for you."
Damian didn’t stop. As he approached Martin suddenly felt something horrifying.
For a brief second Damian looked enormous like a giant, looking down at him with murderous intent.
Martin stepped aside instinctively and only after Damian passed did he realize what happened.
Damian continued walking without looking back.
"Don’t bother old man. I’m currently too valuable for this little firm."
Martin shivered. Calling Blacksheep firm, ine of the biggest firms in the country little would normally sound arrogant. But hearing it from Damian, it sounded factual.
[Do make sure to stop at Clara’s office and tell her your plans.]
Rin yawned.
[It would be weird if the man she spent the night with resigns and she hears it from someone else.]
Damian smiled slightly.
"That would actually be funny."
[It would.]
Damian ignored Martin’s pleading and made his way to the criminal defense floor. By now, he was certain news had already begun spreading.
Clank.
Damian opened his office.
Inside Clara sat behind his desk, her silver hair spilled over her shoulders while one earbud remained in place.
She was quietly reviewing files and bopping her head gently to music. Her brows occasionally furrowed while her lips moved silently as she read.
Damian stopped for the first time since entering the building and just observed her in silence.
His expression softened immediately as seeing her, remembered him of the woman he fell in love with.
Loth entered quietly behind him, shut the door and locked it. While Damian snapped his fingers.
Buzz.
Invisible waves spread through the office, making the room sound proof and spirit proof.
[Isolation Barrier Activated]
Damian quietly walked around the desk and then stopped behind Clara.
She still hadn’t noticed.
Damian watched her in silence and several thoughts crossed his mind. In the past, he hid everything because he was afraid she would leave. But now things were changing and his life was becoming something dangerous.
Anything can happen at anytime. Including his death, he owed her an explanation because she could be dragged into it very soon.
