He Wouldn't Claim Me — Another Man Did

Chapter 180 - 166: Injured

Chapter 180 - 166: Injured

The thought that Silas Lockwood might have another woman in his heart suddenly killed Luna Langley’s appetite.

She chided herself for being greedy. They had both been clear from the start that their union was one of convenience. She already had his body, yet now she coveted his heart.

"Why did you stop eating?"

"I’m full. You can finish the rest," Luna Langley said.

Silas Lockwood wasn’t one to let food go to waste. He finished the remaining skewers before they both headed home.

Luna Langley had already showered before going out, but she couldn’t stand the thought of sleeping with the smell of barbecue clinging to her, so she showered again after getting home.

So did Silas Lockwood.

After her shower, Luna Langley went to the study and saw Silas Lockwood coming upstairs, looking refreshed. His black hair was still half-damp, adding a touch of wildness to his usual refined aura.

"Still have work to do this late?" Silas Lockwood asked.

"No, just grabbing something."

"Alright. Get some rest."

"Okay, good night."

"Good night."

Luna Langley watched as Silas Lockwood walked into the guest room without a backward glance.

She felt a small pang of disappointment.

The truth was, sometimes she wished they could just sleep in the same bed, doing nothing more. But Silas Lockwood only came to the master bedroom when he was in the mood.

’So it was true. He only liked the physical intimacy, not me.’

Luna Langley couldn’t sleep.

She didn’t know if it was from eating too much, or if it was because she couldn’t stop thinking about Silas Lockwood.

Her poor sleep meant she couldn’t focus on work the next day. After a groggy morning, Luna Langley caught up on sleep during her lunch break. She had a short dream, and even there, it was all about Silas Lockwood.

That afternoon was the inauguration of the Langley Group’s largest R&D facility, and Luna Langley had to be there in person.

This was her first major initiative since taking the helm of the Langley Group. The company’s prior lack of R&D autonomy had long been a sore spot for Luna Langley. The opening of this facility meant the Langley Group could finally seize control of its own research and development, a milestone achievement for the company.

Luna Langley took this inspection very seriously.

Arthur Vance, the VP of the Langley Group, was waiting for her outside her office. Seeing that her eyes were bloodshot, he asked with concern, "Didn’t sleep well last night?"

"Yeah."

"Did something happen?"

Arthur Vance was a VP Luna Langley had personally promoted, and one of the few people in the entire Langley Group she truly trusted. More than colleagues, the two were like friends.

"Just a personal matter."

"If you’re in any trouble, let me know. We can figure it out together."

"I know."

They departed from the Langley Group headquarters. During the drive, Luna Langley rested with her eyes closed, and Arthur Vance sat beside her in silence, careful not to disturb her.

The facility director and staff were already waiting for Luna Langley at the main entrance.

After getting out of the car, Luna Langley greeted the facility’s staff, and the group walked inside to begin the tour.

Knowing the President was visiting that day, the facility director had pulled out all the stops. He had not only prepared numerous welcome banners but had even put up an archway.

Luna Langley detested such formalities. Just as she was about to say something, she saw the large archway above her suddenly start to collapse.

"President Langley!"

Arthur Vance, walking beside Luna Langley, was the first to realize something was wrong. He instantly dove toward her, but he was too late—the archway came crashing down right on top of her.

"President Langley..."

"President Langley!"

"Call an ambulance, quickly!"

--

When Silas Lockwood returned to Sutton Gardens after work, he noticed Luna Langley wasn’t home yet.

He glanced at his phone, but there were no messages from her about working late.

’She probably just got busy and forgot.’

This happened often enough that he didn’t think much of it. He went upstairs to his study to keep working.

Lately, Silas Lockwood had been heading home right on time, bringing any unfinished tasks with him. His special assistant, Conrad Beckett, was a straightforward man. Just yesterday, he had asked, "President Lockwood, you got some kind of treasure hidden at home or something?"

Conrad Beckett’s words gave Silas pause.

’He had been acting strangely lately. He feared the ’treasure’ wasn’t just hidden in his house—it was hidden in his heart, too.’

By eight o’clock, Luna Langley still wasn’t back.

Silas Lockwood kept glancing at his watch, completely unable to focus on his work.

"Sir!" Aunt Sinclair cried, running upstairs and knocking on his door. "Something’s happened! It’s the young lady, sir! Something’s happened to her!"

"What happened?"

"Her assistant just called. She said she was at the facility this afternoon for an inspection and got hit by a collapsing structure. She’s in the hospital now."

’She’s hurt!’

Silas Lockwood’s heart leaped into his throat.

"Which hospital?"

"Meritopia General Hospital."

Silas Lockwood grabbed his jacket and car keys and ran out.

Aunt Sinclair chased after him, "Sir, should I pack her a change of clothes?"

"Just get them ready. I’ll have someone come pick them up later."

His heart was already at the hospital; he couldn’t bear to wait another second.

By the time Silas Lockwood arrived at the hospital, Luna Langley had already completed a full examination. She had injuries to her head and hand, but nothing was considered serious. However, because she had lost consciousness during the accident and scans revealed a mild concussion, the doctor recommended she be admitted for observation.

In the hospital room, Arthur Vance was feeding Luna Langley porridge.

"President Langley, please eat something. You must be hungry; you haven’t eaten since this afternoon." Arthur Vance scooped up a spoonful of porridge and held it to Luna Langley’s lips.

"I don’t have an appetite. I’m dizzy and a bit nauseous."

"The doctor said that’s normal, so don’t feel pressured. Just eat what you can. You shouldn’t have an empty stomach, especially since you have to take medicine later."

Luna Langley forced herself to take a small sip. Before she could swallow, she saw Silas Lockwood walk in.

Silas Lockwood had floored it to the hospital. He never expected to walk in on such a scene.

’Who is this man feeding Luna porridge? Why do they look so close?’

He forced down his suspicion and jealousy, walking over to the hospital bed to check on Luna Langley first.

"Are you okay?" Silas Lockwood asked.

"I’m fine. What are you doing here?"

"Aunt Sinclair told me."

The words were dripping with resentment. Luna Langley could hear the unspoken accusation: he was upset that she hadn’t told him about something so serious.

Luna Langley felt it was a bit unfair. She had only just regained consciousness and was still groggy; it wasn’t that she’d intentionally kept it from him, she simply hadn’t had the chance to tell him yet. As for Aunt Sinclair finding out, Aki had probably been the one to tell her. Aunt Sinclair was Aki’s aunt, and the two of them were very close.

"President Langley, and this is?" Arthur Vance had never met Silas Lockwood before.

"I’m her husband."

Silas Lockwood not only answered Arthur’s question before Luna could, but he also took the bowl right out of his hands.

"Thank you for taking care of my wife. I’ll feed her."

Arthur was certain this was his first time meeting Silas Lockwood, and he was just as certain that he was feeling a palpable hostility from the man. He was baffled. ’How on earth did I manage to offend President Lockwood?’

"So you’re President Lockwood. I’ve heard so much about you."

Silas Lockwood ignored Arthur Vance, sat down by Luna Langley’s hospital bed, scooped up a spoonful of porridge, blew on it to cool it, and brought it to her lips.

Getting the cold shoulder for no apparent reason, Arthur Vance looked toward Luna Langley, a hint of bewilderment in his eyes.

Luna Langley also found Silas Lockwood’s behavior odd. He was normally so polite and composed, but right now, he was clearly losing his cool.

’Was he... jealous?’
