Chapter 304: Summer Lowell Is Moved by the Elderly Couple
"But there’s one thing, the lady didn’t go alone; Dr. Sullivan went with her."
"I see, where is Charles Jenson now?"
Maxim Sinclair lightly rubbed his thumb and forefinger together, "If he’s at the office, call him over. I want to talk to him about this matter."
"He was at the office, but he left about ten minutes ago. There’s an issue with some raw materials in the production department, and he went to check it on-site. I heard he won’t be back until the afternoon at the earliest because it’s a large quantity of materials."
After Assistant Collins finished speaking, he glanced at Maxim Sinclair hesitantly, "Need me to call the vice president and ask him to return immediately?"
"No need, work is important," Maxim Sinclair waved him off, "Don’t disturb him. Just keep a close watch on the lady’s matters, make sure her safety is protected, the rest is not important."
"Understood, President Sinclair."
Café.
Mr. and Mrs. Collins sat anxiously across the table, looking at Summer Lowell and Vivian Sullivan on the other side.
Vivian Sullivan discreetly assessed the couple, her hand under the table soothingly patted Summer Lowell.
Receiving comfort, Summer collected herself and looked up at the couple across the table, visibly emotional and agitated, "Written proof is easy to forge, especially after so many years have passed. I have the simplest method here, DNA testing. Only DNA results can prove if we’re indeed biologically related."
Mrs. Collins, who had anticipated this, immediately reached to pull out her hair, her hand deliberately trembling, "You’re right, we should test the DNA. That way you’ll be at ease and so will we. I have to say something that might upset you, we actually want to test the DNA too. Over the years we’ve been looking for our daughter... sigh, we’ve been disappointed too many times to believe easily anymore."
Summer Lowell’s heart was pierced by her words.
Vivian Sullivan stood up to take the hair, carefully storing it. Opposite her, Mrs. Collins, after a moment of hesitation, extended her hand only to withdraw it, "Summer, is your work tiring? You seem a bit too thin; can I come by sometime to bring you some soup? I’m really good at making soup."
The silent Mr. Collins also spoke up, "Yes, your mother is very good at making soup. How about letting her bring you some to nourish yourself? I know in the arts you strive to stay thin, but being perpetually underweight isn’t good for your health. We feel distressed seeing you like this."
"No need, I’m fine like this. I had a full-body checkup recently, and everything’s fine. I also have a nutritionist for my meals, so don’t worry."
Summer Lowell felt overwhelmed by the parental concern she had rarely experienced in her life, unsure how to respond.
Vivian Sullivan knew what was unsettling her, patted her hand sympathetically, then took the initiative to say to the couple across the table, "We have things to attend to, so if you’re not busy, we’ll be going now. The DNA test results will come out soon, and we’ll meet again then."
"Okay, then we won’t disturb your work, Summer," Mrs. Collins hurriedly got up, pulling Mr. Collins with her, a hint of apology in her tone, still looking back at Summer with some reluctance, "Take care of yourself, don’t just focus on work; work is never-ending. If you’re really tired, stop working. Your parents have made a lot of money over the years, enough for you to pursue your dreams."
Hearing this, Summer couldn’t hold it together anymore. She squeezed Vivian Sullivan’s hand and said softly, "Help me send them off, I’ll head back first."
With that, she quickly turned and left.
Vivian Sullivan graciously escorted the couple out to their car.
As the car drove away, Mr. Collins, worried, looked back, "Summer left without finishing her words. Did we slip up somewhere and she noticed?"
"Of course not, don’t overthink," Mrs. Collins confidently reassured him, with a hint of pride, "President Huxley showed me what this girl’s been through over the years. It’s been tough for her, probably not used to such attention from elders before, so she ran off because she was overwhelmed with emotion, afraid she might lose composure if she stayed."
"Really? Is it that effective? You just said a few nice things."
Mr. Collins seemed unconvinced.
A satisfied smile spread on Mrs. Collins’s face, "This isn’t just improvisation. President Huxley instructed me, even arranged for a psychologist to coach me step by step. I spent these past few days practicing, ensuring I can hoodwink her."
"That’s good to hear. I wonder how our son is doing; prison life is rough, and he’s used to living comfortably. He must be going through a hard time."
"He should be okay. I asked President Huxley about it, and he wired more money to the lawyers over there. With lawyers around, they will definitely take care of our boy. As long as we settle things here quickly, he can regain his freedom."
"Let’s hope everything goes smoothly. That girl next to Summer, she had particularly sharp eyes. I’m afraid she might pick up on something."
Mr. Collins patted his chest, still feeling anxious.
Mrs. Collins shared the same sentiment, "The girl beside her is indeed sharp; President Huxley also reminded me to be wary of Vivian Sullivan. But they’re just two young girls with little worldly experience, and we’ve been around for over fifty years, why should we fear them? We’ll do anything for our son’s sake, even walk through fire."
"True, let’s hope everything goes well. That young Summer is quite sharp, knowing to ask for a DNA test. But let her test as much as she wants; she can run it a hundred times, and she’ll still be our daughter."
Mr. Collins wasn’t bothered by it at all, "Since she’s opting for a DNA test, we can be at ease. Once she sees the real results, she’ll surely change her attitude. At that point, things will start going smoothly."
After returning home, Justin Huxley came over personally to inquire about the situation. Learning that Summer asked for their hair to conduct a DNA test, he was equally delighted.
"Great, now you just need to wait for Summer to come and acknowledge you."
That evening, as soon as Maxim Sinclair returned, he went looking for Summer, "How did that thing of yours go?"
"What thing?"
Head deep in work, Summer Lowell didn’t react immediately.
"The issue of your biological parents showing up, how did you handle it? What are your plans? Is it convenient for you to tell me?"
His politeness made Summer a bit uneasy, and she smiled, "I met them again today. Vivian came along with me. I asked for their hair, planning to conduct a DNA test to see if they’re indeed my biological parents. We’ll deal with everything else later."
